ADHD stands for ‘attention deficit hyperactivity disorder’ and is a condition that affects people’s behaviour. In this article, we will be exploring whether there are any possible benefits of CBD for ADHD symptoms and how CBD may be used to help encourage the relaxation of both body and mind. What Are the Symptoms Associated with ADHD? In general, people diagnosed with this condition can seem restless, tend to act on impulse, and may have trouble concentrating, alongside other behaviours. ADHD is divided into three primary types which are predominantly inattentive, predominantly hyperactive-impulsive, or a combination of both. It’s important to know that symptoms may vary from person to person. Although the majority of cases of ADHD are diagnosed when children are under 12 years of age, it’s sometimes not recognised in childhood and only diagnosed as ADHD later as an adult. Although ADHD symptoms often improve with age, many adults diagnosed with the condition at a young age continue to experience problems. People with ADHD often experience sleep and anxiety disorders. Adults with ADHD may also find it difficult to cope with stress and tend to feel restless or impatient. They may have problems with following instructions or organisation and time management. Keeping focus and completing tasks can be challenging for them and they are often prone to impulsiveness and risk taking. These symptoms can often lead to people with ADHD having issues with relationships or social interaction. CBD and ADHD symptoms Although there is not enough scientific evidence to actively support the use of CBD as a treatment for ADHD, many people choose to use CBD to help them manage some of the symptoms associated with ADHD. Treatment for ADHD can include strong medication, and natural options like CBD are increasingly being explored alongside. People diagnosed with ADHD can often report experiencing anxiety and sleeplessness. Even though UK’s regulatory bodies don’t currently recognise CBD as a treatment for anxiety, there is growing evidence from reputable sources which suggests that CBD Oil may have a beneficial effect on the condition. A recent study, conducted in New Zealand, reported that a three-week course of CBD treatment positively affected the day-to-day lives of participants experiencing anxiety. Likewise, while CBD is not yet medically approved as a sleep supplement, some studies seek to prove a link between CBD and an improved sleep cycle. For people diagnosed with ADHD and experiencing sleep problems, it can be helpful to create routines to help prepare their mind and body for sleep. CBD Oil can be a great addition to many of these routines and could help support the goal of gently drifting off for the night. Exercise is another important ingredient for falling asleep quickly, promoting restful slow-wave sleep, and improving sleep quality. It also releases endorphins, which help ease stress and anxiety symptoms. A peaceful walk, gardening, yoga, or swimming are all great exercises to try, especially when combined with CBD. Is CBD Safe for Children with ADHD While CBD is legal for minors in UK law, it is not recommended to sell to those under 18 years of age. Although the results of preliminary studies show no safety concerns, there have not been enough formal studies carried out on the safety of CBD for children. Until more research has been done into the safety of CBD for children, Grass and Co. does not advise that our CBD products are used by under 18s. Moreover, we always recommend that you speak with your GP or HCP in the first instance before introducing CBD to be sure that it will not interact with any prescribed medication.
